Background introduction

A customer manufactures light-emitting diode (LED) products. Mainly used for LED TV and car lighting. Many production steps are done on the production line, such as the oven process and circuit and integrity testing. To verify that all finished components have completed each stage without omission and have passed the necessary tests, the manufacturer chose a reliable traceability system that uses a DataMan code reader to read the laser-marked QR code on each LED strip at each production stage.

1. Print quality is uneven.

2. The component size is very small, each QR code is usually less than two millimeters in size.

3. The LED should be connected to the circuit board through the various welding pads on the surface of the circuit board through the oven process. The high temperatures (around 300º C) used to dry the welds sometimes distort the code.

 

Solution

Cognex Reader enables manufacturers to achieve full traceability of the production process, so that when a component misses a test or some kind of human error occurs, the system rejects the part or displays an error message when the barcode is read in the next process. From a quality assurance point of view, the installation of this traceability system ensures that all components coming out of the production line have passed all the necessary testing stages.

Working effect

After fine tuning, the resulting image is of better quality and has the desired high contrast. This increases the overall performance of the read operation from 90% to 100%.
