In the machine vision system, the role of the light source is 1. illuminating the target and improving the brightness of the target; 2. Form the most favorable imaging effect for image processing; 3. Overcome the interference of ambient light and ensure the stability of the image; 4. Use as a tool and reference for measurement. The selection of light sources for image processing can be divided into the following three steps:
1. Determine the type of light source
The types of light sources include specular, diffuse, and transmitted light. Confirm whether the inspection feature detects defects or shapes, or check whether the surface is flat, warped or uneven, and select the appropriate light source type for each inspection application.
2. Determine the shape and size of the light source device
Check the size of the target and the mounting conditions to determine the shape and size of the light source device.
3. Determine the color (wavelength) of the light source
Check the material and color of the target and background to determine the color (wavelength) of the light source.
The above three steps help to narrow down the selection of light sources, and the final decision is also based on the image captured by the camera and projected onto the display to select the most suitable light source for the system's inspection.
