What are the factors that affect the reflection effect of machine vision light

Machine vision LED light sources can be divided into two categories: one is front lighting and the other is back lighting. Front lighting is used to detect surface features of objects, and back lighting is used to detect object contours or the purity of transparent objects. What are the factors that affect the reflection effect of light sources? Here is a brief introduction to various factors:

1. Position of the light source: Since the light source is reflected according to the angle of incidence, the position of the light source is important for obtaining high-contrast images. The goal of a light source is to make the feature of interest reflect the light differently than its surrounding background. Predicting how a light source will reflect off an object's surface determines its location.

2. Surface texture: The surface of an object may be highly reflective (specular reflection) or highly diffuse. The main factor that determines whether an object is specular or diffuse is the smoothness of its surface. A diffusely reflective surface, such as a piece of matte paper, has complex surface angles and appears bright when viewed with a microscope. This is due to changes in the surface angle of the object causing the light source to hit the object surface and be dispersed. A smooth piece of paper has a smooth surface that reduces the angle of the object's surface. The light source strikes the surface of the light source and is reflected according to the angle of incidence.

3. Surface shape: A spherical surface reflects light sources in a manner not nearly the same as a flat object. The more complex the shape of the object's surface, the more complex the light source changes on its surface. Corresponding to a polished mirror surface, the light source needs to shine at different angles. Lighting from different angles can reduce light and shadow.

4. Light source uniformity: Uneven light will cause uneven reflection. Regarding the field of view, it should be uniform across the camera field of view. Simply put, the dark areas in the image are the lack of reflected light, while the bright spots are where the reflection is too strong. Uneven light causes some areas of the field of view to have more light than others. This results in uneven reflection on the surface of the object (assuming that the reflection of light on the surface of the object is the same. A uniform light source will compensate for the angular changes on the surface of the object. Even if the geometry of the surface of the object is different, the reflection of the light source in each part is uniform.
