The application market size of machine vision systems is expanding

In modern industrial automated production, machine vision systems are involved in a variety of inspection, measurement and parts identification applications, such as dimensional inspection of automotive parts and integrity inspection of automatic assembly, automatic positioning of components in electronic assembly lines, and beverage bottle caps. Printing quality inspection, barcode and character recognition on product packaging, etc. The common features of this type of application are continuous mass production and very high requirements for appearance quality.

Usually this kind of highly repetitive and intelligent work can only be completed by manual inspection. We often see hundreds or even more than a thousand inspection workers behind the modern assembly lines in some factories to perform this process. While the factory has increased huge labor costs and management costs, it still cannot guarantee a 100% inspection pass rate (i.e. "zero defects"). However, the competition between enterprises today no longer allows even 0.1% defects to exist. In some cases, such as precise and rapid measurement of small dimensions, shape matching, color identification, etc., it is impossible to perform continuously and stably with the human eye, and other physical quantity sensors are also difficult to use. At this time, people began to consider combining the speed, reliability, and repeatability of results of the computer with the high intelligence and abstraction capabilities of human vision, thus giving rise to the concept of machine vision.
Generally speaking, machine vision is to use machines to replace human eyes for measurement and judgment. First, a CCD camera is used to convert the captured target into an image signal, which is sent to a dedicated image processing system. According to pixel distribution, brightness, color and other information, it is converted into a digital signal; the image system performs various operations on these signals to extract the target. Characteristics, such as: area, length, quantity, position, etc.;* Finally, the results are output according to the preset tolerance and other conditions, such as: size, angle, offset, number, qualified/unqualified, yes/no wait.
Machine vision is characterized by automation, objectivity, non-contact and high precision. Compared with image processing systems in a general sense, machine vision emphasizes precision and speed, as well as reliability in industrial field environments. Machine vision is extremely suitable for measurement, inspection and identification in mass production processes, such as: part assembly integrity, assembly dimensional accuracy, part processing accuracy, position/angle measurement, part identification, feature/character recognition, etc.
Its largest application industries are: automotive, pharmaceutical, electronics and electrical, manufacturing, packaging/food/beverage, and medicine. Such as inspection of the processing accuracy of automobile dashboards, rapid positioning of electronic components on high-speed placement machines, inspection of the number of pins, identification of characters printed on the surface of ICs, inspection of capsule wall thickness and appearance defects during capsule production, bearings Inspection of the number and damage of balls during production, identification of production dates on food packaging, and inspection of label placement positions.
